Face au paradoxe de la tragédie qui consiste à éprouver par la mimèsis des émotions non réelles, l'A. étudie la réponse aristotélicienne au statut non actuel de la peur et de la pitié dans la fiction. Soulevant la question de la ressemblance, de la qualité et de la dimension narrative des émotions, l'A. explique nos réactions à la mimèsis par la distinction entre la pensée et la croyance.
