Zugriff:
Immanuel Kant's theory of art in the Critique of Judgement contains elements of a neoplatonic aesthetics of genius and an aristotelian aesthetics of rules. Out of these - originally opposite - elements Kant develops a fundamentally new explanation of the production of fine arts, based on the principles of his transcendental philosophy. Kant's theory justifies art as a sphere of autonomy in its production and reception, and provides a basis for the explanation of both the historical development of art and an 'aesthetic of the ugly'.
