This research provides a detailed view on the study of Virginia Woolf’s influence on her followers in Taiwan by using John Dryden’s and André Levefere’s translation theories. Based on André Levefere’s perspective, an imitation of the original author not only helps to push the second culture’s literary growth, but also results in a new writing pattern available for the second culture writers to make use of in their work. In this research, Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway was chosen for the study because it is a well-known innovative stream-of-consciousness novel. Mrs. Dalloway was the bestseller in Britain and the United States on the New York Times in 2003 even though it was first published in 1925. Woolf’s rejection of the traditional narration technique was seen in Mrs. Dalloway and replaced with her own self- invented tunneling technique. Thereby, I have chosen Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway as the core study to find out its influence on her followers in Taiwan. The three subjects I have picked for this research to find out the influence of Mrs. Dalloway on her followers in Taiwan included Bai Xianyong (Pai Hsien-yung), Wang Wenxing (Wang Wen-hsin), and Chen Ruo-xi (Chen Ruo-hsi). Bai, Wang and Chen were classmates in National Taiwan University (NTU), and together they launched Modern Literature magazine (Xiandai wenxue) in 1958. Finding the mimesis of Woolf’s influence in the Taiwanese writers’ work could hopefully further add an introspection into how Taiwan’s own literary field benefited and grew from the usage of stream-of-consciousness writing. Keywords: translation, mimesis, Bai Xianyong (Pai Hsien-yung), Wang Wenxing (Wang Wen-hsin), Chen Ruoxi (Chen Ruo-hsi), Virginia Woolf, John Dryden, André Levefere, stream-of-consciousness, monologue
